McCowan and Ellesmere is right in the middle of two of Scarborough’s most desirable neighbourhoods. Bendale and Woburn. What makes it so desirable?
Why McCowan and Ellesmere is desirable
Affordable property prices
Compared to central parts of Toronto, the east end remains affordable and you can still buy a detached home at McCowan and Ellesmere for under $600,000. But I’m pretty sure home prices will continue to rise in this area.
Transportation
If you live in homes near McCowan and Ellesmere, you have a TTC stop within a few minutes from you, you’re just minutes away from the McCowan RT, and you have GO access and LRT access at Scarborough Town Centre. If and when the Scarborough Centre subway station gets built, home prices here will skyrocket.
Large lots
I’s one of the few parts of the city left with not only affordable detached homes, but homes situated on large lots. In fact, you are starting to see a lot of renovation and top-up projects at McCowan and Ellesmere as home buyers are either fully gutting and renovating the older bungalows or topping them up for added square footage.
Neighbourhood amenities
Restaurants, several grocery stores (Real Canadian Superstore, Walmart and Freshco), a 24 hour Shoppers Drug Mart, shopping at Scarborough Town Centre, recreation at YMCA and Centennial Arena… there’s a lot to do in this area and it’s all just either a walk or drive away.
You can still buy a detached home in the McCowan and Ellesmere areas for under $600,000. But with Toronto real estate prices rapidly increasing, you may see homes in this area rise into the $700,000 range. Investors are buying up properties because they offer a great return on investment, especially bungalows with separate basement apartments.
