The Death of the Dashboard: AI Agents via APIs and MCPs vs. Logging Into Every App

Is this what the future of interacting with apps looks like? A chat interface via an AI agent (such as Gumloop), talking to your app (Ahrefs) and giving you what you need, versus spending hours clicking through your app's user interface and eventually getting the same thing?

I wanted to generate a report to see how well my real estate brokerage's website is performing against competitors. We use a tool called Ahrefs to track performance. It's easy enough as it is, and there are a lot (A LOT) of reporting options available. But I wanted to interact with Ahrefs differently today. So I generated an API key, plugged it into Gumloop, and started a chat with my Gumloop agentic AI.

Instead of me clicking around to find reports in the Ahref's dashboard, I asked my AI agent what reports I needed to gain insight into my website's performance.

I asked it to rate our performance versus competitors, identify content and keyword strategies, and have a look at where the website is failing.

Reports were generated (graphics, charts and all), analyses were made (including key insights I was looking for), and an action plan was drafted.

Now imagine if all of the apps you currently use were connected to a centralized AI agent (or multiple agents), and all you had to do was ask for what you wanted, or set automations so that you get the reports you need on a regular basis and get your tasks done automatically.

This is the future we're heading into. You'll tell your AI agent what you need, and it'll scour the apps you use to get it done.

There will be competition between apps and AI agents – the apps want you to stay on their dashboard and user interface. Agents want you to rely on them.

On any given day I may have a dozen or so tabs opened to access various apps I use at work. The ones with APIs (think of it like a handshake and connection between an app and your AI agent) I've connected to work with my AI agent so I never have to login to them unless I absolutely need to.

Do you see yourself interacting with all of your apps in one place via an AI agent, or do you enjoy going into each one and using them separately?
